Hello Everyone! The holidays are coming to an end but we have exciting plans in store for you! We have awesome news for you as there will be an upcoming exchange trip to Hiroshima, Japan where their paper cranes are popular, and their okonomiyaki are well known throughout the country.

We will be visiting the Hiroshima Institute of Technology Polytechnic(HITP) for 9 days and furthermore during the trip itself, there will be at least 2 days of homestay to immerse yourself in the Japanese culture and experience their lifestyle.

Hey, Guys!! Have been growing sick with the tropical December all these while? Want to experience a real winter in December? Feeling disappointed for not being selected in the previous few trips that you've gone for the interview? Fret not! Sign up now for yet another upcoming Exchange program to Oita, Japan!!

Hey everyone!
I know all of you are anxious are about the selection results! So are we at SEC!

So far, the latest news we've got is that the participants have been selected (or maybe some changes here and there), so just keep your fingers crossed and pray hard you get selected.
Sad to say, we won't know when SAA would send out the messages to inform selected participants. (Candidates not selected would NOT be notified of anything)

This is a reminder to EVERYONE though. If you get selected for any of our outbound trips, there will be a pre-departure camp. This is to bond the group and prepare you for the trip. And the pre-departure camp is COMPULSORY.

HI EVERYONE! :D

Holidays are ending this week and school will be starting! miss the holidays? don't worry cause we have an outbound trip to Japan this June vacation!

This exchange trip will be held at Hiroshima, Japan with the school, Hiroshima Insitute of Technology Polytechnic [HITP]. It will be from the 9th to 16th June 2009.

During the exchange trip, you will get the opportunity to experience the facilities HITP students use in their school. Additionally, you will get the chance to learn more about Japanese Culture through opportunities during the trip. Have a go wearing the traditional Yukata and try out the hot springs of Japan!

Don be afraid that you cant communicate with the Japanese students in HITP! during the pre-departure camp, you will be taught simple Japanese conversational words that you can use!

Wanna know more about our trip? Do come down for our briefing on the 22nd of April, 3pm at Dance@ Moberly!

PLEASE BRING ALONG A PASSPORT-SIZED PHOTO FOR REGISTRATION FORMS!

So we’re back with the 3 latest events happening all in the month of March!

First up we have the Ariake National College of Technology (ANCT), Japan, visiting Singapore! And we need you! CCA POINTS will be given for this rare experience as well as interaction with native Japanese.

We need hosts & helpers for ANCT!

- 6 Female Hosts available on 21 and 22 March (Saturday and Sunday)

- 8 Male Hosts on 21 and 22 March (Saturday and Sunday)

- 6 helpers available any day from 16 to 23 March

Date: 20^th – 22^nd March (for hosts) and 15^th – 23^th March (for helpers)

Group size: 8 male and 6 female students

Then, we have up the Kanazawa Technical College (KTC), Japan coming over too!

We need Helpers for this, so if you’re interested, here are the details:

KNCT visit 08

BEFORE ANY OF YOU GUYS THROW SOME ROTTEN EGGS AT US!
LET US APOLOGIZE FIRST!
WE ARE REALLY REALLY SORRY THAT WE DID NOT INFORM YOU GUYS ABOUT THIS PROGRAM!
BUT WE CAN EXPLAIN!!!
News of this group of students came in only on Tuesday on the first week of our exams and our members were unable to attend to it until Friday which was just one day before the event. As it was a last minute thing, as much as we like to, we were unable to gather and co-ordinate members to participant in the program. WE ARE SINCERELY SORRY! (worst still... it clashes with the japanese summer festival... again)

Before the rotten eggs come flying in my direction for the long-winded apologies, lets share the highlights of the event.
It was a one-day event which saw us bringing a group of 19 students from Kumamoto National College of Technology on a "city tour". The students were tasked to carry out an activity (taking photo, buying a cheap item) at one of our popular tourist spots (orchard, city hall). Heaven wasn't kind on us that day and it was pouring heavily when the activities started, thus leading to the activities having to be cut back and simplified. ='( However the exchange students had great fun when they were moving through the congested shopping belts.

Dinner was amusing and entertaining as it involve witnessing some student sherring a few tears all thanks to our dear friend MR chilli padi. But before long the short day had come to an end and everyone had to rush back to the hostel before the clock strikes 8. The amazing race back to the hostel was indeed quite interesting as it involved a group of 24 people being led by a bring yellow flag across suntec city to a taxi line. I bet you guys have never seen such a hilarious scene. It was so hilarious that a tourist can't resist the urge to do an imitation with her purple umbrella. This scene can only be brought to you by the guy who was late for 20mins at the beginning and had to make girls wait for him =,=" (shan't mention any names here =P go figure!)

The day was capped of with a gift giving ceremony and many happy photo taking session outside the toilets! *some people didn't choose a good background* .As I'm too lazy to upload proofs of said photos this time round, I will promise to upload it with the next few posts.

Just for some background information:
KNCT is a group who comes down to SP for 2 weeks of intensive english lessons every year. During a weekend in here, our students will have a chance to bring a small group of them to various part of the country as part of the exchange activity.
We pinky promise you that we will inform you guys about this event next year. It was unfortunate that this year exams had crashed with the exam weeks and the japanese summer festival.

Preparation Camps!

YAY! Finaally exams are OVER!!! *dances ard*

Backtracking to where we had left off before the exams, let's talk about the PREPARATION CAMPS!

1st up, Oita and Chiba combined preparation camp which saw the 2 groups of more than 30 people meeting, dancing and singing their hearts out for 3days and 2 nights. But before all the fun and action starts, the group did a little warmup with windi and his crazy ideas. I heard it tested the participants sense of touch. =)During the camp, the 2 groups prepared for the trip by brainstorming for their banners and performance. --> think Bollywood dancing and stomp!. oHH throw in a crash japanese course conducted at night. The group from Oita even had a late night talk with one of the pervious participants and his "unique" encounters during his trip.

Oh and don't forget the exam fever.... these mad group of people were mugging into the wee hours of the morning *hats off to them* So how did you guys did for the exams? Very well I hope =D

The next week we had the preparation for the 20th MILE trip participants who will be flying off this wed *WOHOO!!!*. What else to expect from a wacky bunch of people but a wacky performance which includes a popular camp punishment and a famous japanese hair product commercial (seriously! what are these guys thinking?!) Come to think of it, they weren't thinking much too... coming from a group whose first agenda of the camp was to take not 1 but 6 group photos even before they get down to business! This is also the 1st group to hit the pillows early and wakes up only when the sun shines down on them. Let's pray that they won't oversleep in Japan. =D

For those join our Korea trip prep-camp, get yourself ready for the craziness that may occur anytime during the camp, for we can't promise you that it will be one without any suprises =)

Ice breaking game, dinner ( I'm so sorry that you guys were being cheated by Windi) and acting time ( Lights, camera action!). OHH not forgetting the preview for the latest hairstyling trend! ( you guys know what i mean)

the campers when around Singapore tourist attraction and had some fun meeting and interacting with some tourists, and being a tourist themselves (ask them about the merlion park ;D ). We were also treated to the guest appearance by the diva ~ Aletsu san

I guess most of us have lots of fun except for the AIR-CON being TOO COLD for the nite. (we will remember to ask you guys to bring a jacket nxt time)... I hope the breakfast made up for it.

ANCT ~ SP

Our last event last academic year saw a new school starting an exchange programme with us. 14 ANCT students spent a total of 9days with us from the 20th- 29th March 08.

The Japanese students started off their programme with a 3days homestay where they stayed with 13 of our members. This was followed by english lessons, school tour, sports day, a visit to pulau ubin with our environment club and finally a farewell lunch and karaoke section to end the week.

It was all tears and laughters on the day of the departure. Both the Japanese students and our host have gained a lot from this experience and the friendship that was born during this trip will last for a long time to come.

A big THANK YOU! to Yushi, Issei, Yosuke, Yone, Ryu, Satoru, Kenji, Aya, Tomona, Kanoko, Akiko, Hitomi, Kozue and Yukari for all the wonderful memories you have given us.

Also thank you to the hosts for all you guys have done during this period. You guys did a great job!!!!

Kanazawa Technical College ~ Singapore Polytechnic

KTC and SP have a very special relationship, one that requires about ... 120 students coming over... haha. These 120 hunks and babes landed in Singapore on the 16th March 08 and left on the 22nd.

Our students were involved in bringing them around for a campus tour and a city tour. I bet the students had lots of fun. =)

we sent about 12 students to help out with the event, and thanks to them, it was a great success!

Hi all~ another update for you guys!

Ariake National College of Technology will be coming to Singapore Polytechnic, and we have the honor of hosting them!

Date: 21st march to 23rd march

There will be 15 students participating in this homestay.

We are looking for 8 boys and 7 girls for the event... ^^

We also have Kanazawa Students coming down to Singapore for a school trip and tour, so we'll also encourage those that cant host, to participate in this!

Signing of MOU Between SP and KIT

Two days ago (22nd Dec 07), the MOU was signed at the admin block, to mark a relationship between SP and, not only KTC, but KIT as well. KTC (Kanazawa Technical College) and SP have since had a successful 25 years of relationship (going into their 26th this march), and KIT will soon be part of that great relationship.

It was an honor for the 19th MILE to be invited to watch the signing... it it was certainly an honor for me to be there. It was not only a great opportunity to meet everybody again, to see all those familiar faces, but also to see the Japanese that we met a few months back. Memories were really great!

It started off with a simple speech, followed by speech by both Principal Low (not for long), and Chairman of KIT Izumiya Yoshio.

After the speech, the signing of the MOU took place, before photographs were taken. After that, the Japanese delegates were treated to a reception at Moberly, before marking the end of the ceremony.

19th MILE was proud to be there to watch this memorable event take place: this will surely mark a very significant relationship between that, and SPSEC is proud to have their members be part of that relationship.

Here's another post for you! Our club needs your help in the JAE 2008 registration!

We need students whose exams either end on the 24th of January, or have finished their ITP by then.

The dates are as follows:

25th, 26th & 28th Jan 08,
Shifts: 8:00 am to 11:30 am; 11:00 am to 2:30 pm; and 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm.

We are looking for a huge number of students. CCA points will be given, as well as lunch allowance!

Been busy lately?

People rushing for exams MST, ccas, events... etc.

This event is a showcase of music & dances of different cultures. The event would be held on Saturday 1st Dec 2007, 6pm @ the SP Convention Centre.

The Guest-Of-Honour is Mr Teo Ser Luck, Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports.

Based on the schedule programme, WOW... some of performance are done up by the SP clubs. Just to name some. SP Symphonic Band, SP STAR Champion!?

It's a chance to watch the other clubs and see what they have planned, what they do, a real eye-opener for everyone who's interested! I'm sure it'll be huge, and a lot of fun!

Outline of New Immigration Procedures: Requirements for the Provision of Personal Information

On 24th May 2006, a new law amending parts of the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act was promulgated and is due to commence on the 20th of November.The revised law contains new provisions for the establishment of a framework for preventative measures against acts of terrorism. As part of this framework, a new anti-terrorism measure is to be implemented, which requires the submission of personal identification information at immigration control.Under the new immigration procedures, when foreign nationals are applying for landing, fingerprints and a facial photograph will be taken after which an immigration control officer shall conduct an examination for landing.In the event of any foreign national, who is required by the new law to be fingerprinted and photographed, refusing to submit to these new provisions, that person will not be permitted to enter Japan, and will be required to leave the country.

Affected persons
All foreign nationals entering Japan will be subjected to the new provisions, apart from the following:
(1) Special permanent residents
(2) Persons under 16 years of age
(3) Those persons performing activities which fall under the status of residence for ‘Diplomat’ or ‘Official’
(4) Those persons who have been invited by the head of any national administrative organization
(5) Those persons who are prescribed by the Ministry of Justice ordinance as equivalent to either
(3) or (4)

New Immigration Procedures

Applicants will be required to follow the following procedures.

(1) A person wishing to enter Japan must submit his/her passport to the immigration control officer.

(2) Once the immigration control officer has explained the procedures that are to be followed, the person wishing to enter Japan will be asked to place the index fingers of both hands on a digital fingerprint reader. The fingerprint information will be read and stored electromagnetically.

(3) A facial photograph will then be taken, using the camera located at the top of the digital fingerprint reader.

(4) The immigration control officer will then conduct a short interview.

(5) On completion of the above procedures, the person wishing to enter Japan will receive his/her passport from the immigration control officer.

Dear all,

An update from the club.

As you all probably already know, we have Miyazaki and Hokkaido participants flying off in less than a month's time! These students are going over for a homestay programme in two different states with SAJAFA.

For participants:

Please note that the weather there is quite cold, and remember to bring warmer clothing. Even if it's Miyazaki, please bring a windbreaker. it's not as cold in Miyazaki than it is in Hokkaido, but it is still cold when the wind blows. Also note that during cold weather, the wind can be killer. Especially for Hokkaido and Miyazaki, please ensure that your fingers and ears are kept warm at all times, because those are more sensitive to temperature!

As an added note, remember to take good care of each other! You're going as a small group, so take care, ne?

Nextly, I don't know if anyone has heard, but recently our club officer-in-charge has changed. Mrs Lim has henceforth moved on to SMA, and our new officer-in-charge is now Ms Angelvin (or Ms Angel).

hey guys! this is one of our first and probably biggest events of this acadamic year~~

we have two batches of overseas students coming over to singapore soon~ for those who cannot go overseas to experience this sharing, this one is for you!

Firstly, we have HITP,students from Hiroshima Institute of Technology Polytechnic, Japan. these students will be arriving on the 27th of august, and will depart on the 11th of september. homestay period will occur during either weekend 31st of august to 2nd of september, or the 7th to 9th of september.

Secondly, we have students coming in from South Korea! this is probably the first time that they have come, and having a homestay for south koreans IS a first for our club! The koreans come from Suncheon First College, and hosting them at your house will definitely be one of the more unique experiences while you are in SP.

please note that for homestay programmes, it is a very pretigious programme as it lets overseas students firsthandedly see the culture of singaporeans through your home~ it is really a chance not to be missed! during their homestay, you will have the chance to bring them around singapore, and show them the sights, food, people, and your home, most of all.

also, ensure that your parents are agreeable to this before sending the email. kindly reply us by the 22nd of june if you are interested, and we will add your names unto the list of participants. a confirm letter will be sent later on.
